Important: indicative rates, not real-time

This converter relies on a table of fixed exchange rates built directly into the page. Because CapsaTools is a fully static website (no server and no connection to a live financial data feed), the rates shown are not pulled in real time from the foreign exchange markets. They are updated periodically by hand and are meant only to give you a rough sense of scale. Before making any real purchase, withdrawal, or money transfer, always check the current rate with your bank, a licensed currency exchange office, or an official financial source.

How does an exchange rate work?

An exchange rate tells you how many units of one currency are needed to obtain one unit of another currency. For example, if 1 euro equals 1.08 US dollars, it takes 1.08 USD to "buy" 1 EUR on the foreign exchange market. These rates are set continuously by international financial markets based on the supply and demand for each currency.

Why do exchange rates fluctuate?

Exchange rates change constantly, sometimes several times a minute, driven by many factors: central bank decisions (interest rates, monetary policy), inflation, a country's economic and political situation, international trade flows, and speculation on financial markets. That's why no fixed rate, even one updated regularly, can replace a real-time check at the moment of an important transaction.

Practical tips for travelers

  • Avoid exchanging money at airport currency exchange counters: rates there are usually much less favorable and fees higher than in town or through your own bank.
  • Compare your bank card's foreign fees before you travel: some cards charge a commission on every payment or withdrawal made in a foreign currency, others don't.
  • Choose to pay in the local currency rather than your home currency when a payment terminal offers a choice (avoid "dynamic currency conversion", which is usually unfavorable to you).
  • Withdraw less often but larger amounts to limit the number of fixed withdrawal fees, while still keeping a reasonable amount of cash on hand.
  • For a large exchange (a property purchase, a big transfer), check the real rate through your bank or a specialized service rather than an indicative tool like this one.

Frequently asked questions

Does this converter show today's exact rate?

No. It uses fixed, approximate rates that are updated from time to time for purely indicative purposes. For the exact rate at the moment of a transaction, check with your bank or an official financial source.

Why is the Moroccan dirham (MAD) included?

Morocco is a very popular travel destination, and the dirham isn't always available in general purpose converters. We added it to make trip planning easier for our visitors.

Can I use this tool for a business transaction?

This isn't recommended. The tool is designed to give a rough estimate before a trip or everyday purchase, not to set a contractual price or carry out an official financial operation.

How often are the rates updated?

The rates are reviewed and adjusted manually on a periodic basis, but never in real time, since this site makes no requests to any external financial service.
